About
My Background
I've been playing the guitar for 20 years, and teaching for around half that time. I received my Bachelor of Music from Cal State University Northridge's Jazz Studies department. There I had the opportunity to study with jazz luminaries like Larry Koonse, and Dr. John Daversa, among many others. My professional experience has taken me from stage to screen performing with acts such as Postmodern Jukebox, on TV shows like The Comedians (Billy Crystal and Josh Gadd – live to tape performance), Jane the Virgin (on camera performance), Deadwood (2019 movie – on camera performance). I've also recorded guitar on various short films and games with industry greats like video game composer Austin Wintory. In addition I also have extensive performing experience with various jazz and other genres in small bands around Los Angeles.
Approach to Teaching
My teaching style can be described as structured, rewarding, and most of all, fun! In addition to teaching students how to play their favorite songs, I also makes use of various method books to give all his students a strong foundation in reading music notation and guitar fundamentals. Whether your interest is electric rock guitar shredding, folk acoustic strumming, jazz and improvisation, or even classical guitar technique, and EVERYTHING in between, I believe I can – and will – help you achieve those goals with all of my attention, care, and patience. My absolute favorite thing about teaching is seeing the pride in a student's face when they nail something they've been working really hard on!
Lesson Structure
I offer live online lessons through ZOOM to anywhere in the US. My setup consists of two high quality cameras so that students can see exactly what they need to in order to get the best results. I offer private digital cloud storage folder for every individual student. In addition to this I offer video supplemental material to help students play along and nail more challenging material. If you happen to be in the Los Angeles area, I am offering limited availability on in-person lessons as well!
